Top Stories from January of 2024 Regarding Physiotherapy You Need to Know About

Physiotherapy for the War Torn

Unfortunately, the new year does not come with any sign of relief when it comes to wars around the world. However, it does come with news that physiotherapy is being used to help ease the pains suffered by those living in (and fleeing) war torn countries. In a recent news releases, the application of physiotherapy to support Ukraine’s war-wounded shines a light on the benefits:

A surge in patients with amputations and complex injuries has created a critical need for physiotherapists to provide post-operative rehabilitation care.” (ReliefWeb)

While we envision a day where our discipline is not needed for such a thing, we want the world to know that our alternative form of healthcare is here to assist in ways that generations prior did not have the opportunity to benefit from.

Physiotherapy to be Available…at Costco?

Excuse the click-bait heading, but there is truth to the matter in a roundabout way. CBC News reports that an old Costco in St. John’s is to be converted into new ambulatory care clinics. More importantly for the intents and purposes of our news reports, is that among the services included in these new clinics, is physiotherapy. This circles back to a news story that we have reported on often before. Healthcare workers are ready for physiotherapists to help ease the bottleneck of patients who simply can’t get quick and efficient access to the help they need. It’s good to see that provincial and federal bodies are gradually paving the way for physiotherapy to be better integrated into the healthcare system to the benefit of patients, and overwhelmed healthcare workers alike.

Stay tuned for more in the new year as we monitor news from around the world that may apply to your own health and wellness program.
