Physiotherapy and It's a Wonderful Lifel

It’s Christmas! That means it’s time for our physiotherapy clinic to drop yet another round of Holiday season themed articles. If you’re new to our blog be sure to check out the following which we released in Christmases past:

On deck for this most wonderful time of the year of 2024 is a look at the most classic of all Holiday films; It’s a Wonderful Life. Anyone who is familiar with the movie knows the lessons learned from the film, which include the following:

  • The power of doing good
  • The importance of family
  • The importance of community
  • The importance of empathy and compassion
  • The importance of integrity and honesty
  • The importance of looking on the positive side of things
  • The importance of counting blessings (being grateful for what you have)

It’s a long list of lessons, but we want to draw attention to one glaring omission by the otherwise fine folks at Paramount Pictures; the importance of physiotherapy. That’s right, IWL features instances where physiotherapy could have been great assistance to troubled ol’ George Bailey.

How Physiotherapy Could Have Helped Save the Holiday Season for George Bailey in It’s a Wonderful Life

Helped Correct George Bailey’s Vestibular Ear Problem

Near the beginning of the film, the audience learns of protagonist George Bailey’s accident as an adolescent that left him with a vestibular ear problem. His compromised vestibular system affected his inner ear and the nerve that connects the inner ear to the brain. It presumably caused George bouts of dizziness, vertigo, imbalance, and other symptoms such as hearing loss and tinnitus. Aggravating the problem even further, is when druggist, Mr. Gower, abused his young employee with a smack on the side of his head which caused his ear to bleed:

Aside from calling in Social Services and the U.S. Department of Labor, physiotherapy intervention for the vestibular ear problem could have greatly benefited the health and wellness of a budding George Bailey. Considering the “butterfly effect”, George could have enjoyed a much smoother life ahead.

Don’t let the same happen to you or your loved ones. Seek physiotherapy services for vestibular rehabilitation today!

Help George Bailey Manage Anxiety and Stress

The thing that gets the best of George Bailey, and brings out the worst in him, is anxiety and stress of events that unfolded in his life. While Henry F. Potter was certainly to blame, Bailey may have been better prepared to manage the stress with the assistance of physiotherapy. But isn’t such a thing the job of a mental health specialist, you ask? Primarily, yes. However, there is strong evidence to suggest that physiotherapy interventions to alleviate symptoms of anxiety and stress (such as inflammation) greatly benefit clients/patients. Further, clinics such as ours have a counselor on staff to provide additional support. If only George had known, a whole lot of bad feelings could have been avoided.

Don’t let the same troubles experienced by George Bailey befall you and your household this Holiday season (and beyond). If located in the Greater Vancouver area, schedule a consultation at our Burnaby BC physiotherapy clinic right away.
