It’s the most wonderful time of the year, and you know what that means; time for our physiotherapy clinic to release our Holiday special blog updates! If you’re new to us, you can also check out the following which we released in Christmases past:
- Physiotherapy Lessons to be Learned from ELF
- Home Alone Injuries Physiotherapy Can Help With
- National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation Injuries to Watch Out For
So what’s on deck for this December of 2024? To begin with, we’re taking a look at a modern classic named Christmas with the Kranks. As with its predecessors, the Holiday film features instances where physiotherapy could have been assistance to the protagonists. Excited to learn more? Awesome. Let’s get to it!
How Physiotherapy Could Have Helped Save the Holiday Season for Christmas With the Kranks
Correct Nora’s Gait in the Fight for Honey Ham
Nora Krank’s two scenes above feature her fight to score the last remaining Hickory Honey Ham at the local grocery store. Her first musculoskeletal failure comes when she speed-walks neck-and-neck with a lady who appears to be in much worse physical shape than Nora. Mrs Krank then walks right into a shopping cart, allowing the antagonist to score the sweet Christmas dinner delicacy. Nora does have a second opportunity towards the end of the grocery store scene, but that too is thwarted when the bagged ham falls to the ground. Nora was once again not fast enough on her feet to save it from the wheels of an oncoming semi-truck.
The issue is clearly with Nora Frank’s gait (manner of walking) and running form. If she had made physiotherapy a part of her health and wellness regime, she would have received a gait analysis and been prescribed custom orthotics. She would have been quicker and more steady, and saved herself a tremendous hassle.
Help Luther Put Snowman on the Roof (or repair injury to follow)
In the scene featuring Luther Krank above, we witness him struggle to hoist and place the snowman on his roof. It is painfully clear that Luther does not have the core strength and fitness to accomplish this otherwise simple task. Regular visits with a physiotherapist, however, would have provided core fitness training that would have allowed him to do so with ease. At the very least, he would have needed significant physiotherapy and chiropractic work to correct the full-body injuries he sustained after falling (then hanging) from the roof.
Don’t let the same troubles experienced by the Kranks befall you and your household this Holiday season (and beyond). If located in the Greater Vancouver area, schedule a consultation at our Burnaby BC physiotherapy clinic right away.
