How to Qualify for Emergency In-Clinic Chiropractic Care Amidst COVID 19 and What Else You Need to Know

Conditions for Receiving In-Clinic Acute and Emergency Chiropractic Care

The College of Chiropractors of BC (CCBC) establishes and upholds standards, legislation, and licensing for BC chiropractors. In doing so it also sets the standards of practice to protect the public. Under the approval of BC health officials, the CCBC has conveyed that a chiropractor may provide in-person “emergent, urgent and/or essential care” as long as the following conditions are met:

i) The patient has an acute condition that, without care, would severely limit him or her from activities of daily living, and (or the patient has an acute condition that requires immediate attention to relieve pain or because his or her daily activities are severely limited).

ii) The chiropractor can ensure that care will be provided in a manner that provides adequate protection against the risks of COVID-19 infection.

Our Burnaby BC clinic along with on-site chiropractor Dr. Caolan Teasdale has taken all necessary precautions and exceeded the health and sanitation requirements to provide patients with a safe space to receive emergency care. To protect our facility, staff, and other patients, those seeking emergency treatment are also asked to assist in this integrated effort. Please keep reading.

Prescreening and Initial Assessment Conducted by Phone

There are no drop-in options available at this time. All emergency appointments are currently being booked online or by phone. In addition, prescreening and your initial assessment will be conduced by Dr. Teasdale over the phone. This is done for two reasons. For one, it will allow Dr. Teasdale to determine that you qualify for in-clinic emergency chiropractic care, including ICBC/WBC related claims. Once it has been determined that you qualify, Dr. Teasdale will ask a series of brief questions to ensure that you do not exhibit any symptoms of COVID 19 and assess whether or not you have put yourself at risk due to recent travel or exposure to those who have COVID 19. With that out of the way, qualified patients can scheduled their in-clinic treatment and begin their expedient road to recovery.

What If You Don’t Qualify?

We know the pain and discomfort you are feeling may seem like an emergency, and it may very well be. However, Dr. Teasdale is a highly qualified practitioner and can best make that determination. If he finds that your initial treatment regime can be conducted online or by phone you can begin your rehabilitation in a virtual environment. Your best interests are our priority so rest assured that even if you don’t qualify for emergency care you will still receive the best possible treatment through our online services until the clinic reopens to accept non-emergency patients. Either way, it all starts with your email or phone call.
