Pope Francis has a bit of a health scare at the onset of March, 2025. He had been in the hospital for three weeks, battling pneumonia, which at an age of 88 can be a scary thing. Thankfully, the Vatican reports that he is out of the woods and on the road to recovery. They cite that a big part of this recovery effort, is respiratory and motor physiotherapy. Why physical therapy / physiotherapy for pneumonia? Physiotherapy plays an important role in the management of pneumonia by improving respiratory function and facilitating airway clearance. It does so through chest percussion and vibration, postural drainage, prescription of exercises to promote an active cycle of breathing, breathing techniques, and mobility exercises. Further, being bed-ridden from pneumonia requires a regime of movements, exercise, and stretches to improve musculoskeletal function.
Tiger Wood to Undergo Physio for Ruptured Achilles Tendon
This week, Tiger Woods revealed that he has undergone surgery for a dreaded ruptured Achilles tendon. It’s suggested that we won’t be able to compete on the PGA Tour for quite some time, but that with physiotherapy he is expected to be back in action for professional competition around about 12-months.
