Despite record breaking summer-like temperatures in Greater Vancouver this October of 2022 (thus far) it is indeed the autumn season. That means it’s time for another edition of Physiotherapy in the News. Excited? We thought so. Let’s get to it!

Top Stories from the Early Autumn of 2022 Regarding Physiotherapy You Need to Know About

World Arthritis Day 2022 Shines Light on Physiotherapy as an Intervention

World Arthritis Day just passed, which lands on October 12th of each annum. When most sufferers (and those who care about them) consider treatment for the chronic inflammation and swelling of ones’ joints, pharmaceuticals more often than not come to mind. While they can be effective in mitigating pain and loss of function, they do come with inherent risks. Painkillers are also killers when not managed with care. This leads us to the growing attention around physiotherapy being employed to ease the pain and malfunction from chronic arthritis. For instance, did you know that k-taping can be helpful in managing the condition? The same is true of physio-clinic prescribed acupuncture and IMS among other interventions. If you or a loved one are suffering from arthritis, and you’re in the Greater Vancouver area, contact our Burnaby clinic to ask about what we can do to ease the pain today.

“It Saved My Vagina”

What would a news release be without an eye-catching headline? However, we’re not trying to sell newspapers or digital clicks with this one. In fact, if you’ve been following our prior physiotherapy news releases then you would know that this particular topic comes up quite a bit. In true form, it has reared its head once again, as Body & Soul just released a story about how pelvic floor physiotherapy is an effective remedy to vaginismus and other forms of postpartum pain. Author Jess Rosenberg spoke from the heart and from experience, dropping the all-important quote “It saved my vagina” in the process.

Physiotherapy is absolutely integral in treating a variety of women’s health issues that impact one’s sex life and overall comfort. Treatments include (but are not exclusive to) manual therapy, core training, electric stimulation, and acupuncture, the latter of which is used to treat the above-mentioned vaginismus.  View this complete list of women’s health issues that can be effectively treated through physiotherapy.

FIFA World Cup Contenders Turn to Physio Before Kicking Off Tournament

The 2022 FIFA World Cup is around the corner (November 20) which means that international soccer teams around the world are preparing for the most important tournament in football. While every major team/organization has its own dedicated physiotherapist, sometimes it’s not enough. This appears to be the case with English professional football club, Chelsea FC. It turns out that Chelsea has hired an outside physiotherapist on a consultancy basis to help sort out their medical department. This goes to show that sometimes both amateur and professional leagues alike would be wise to seek outside consultation from a physiotherapy clinic that specializes in sports injury rehabilitation (and natural performance enhancement). In doing so, teams can ensure that complacency hasn’t set in within the organization.

If you manage a team in the Greater Vancouver BC area, schedule a consultation with our sports injury and performance clinic today.

The news stories above are a clear indicator regarding the importance of physiotherapy. Make it a part of your health and wellness plan for the remainder of 2022 and beyond. If you live in the Greater Vancouver area schedule an appointment at our Burnaby BC clinic at your earliest convenience.
